Over the next few weeks of holiday celebrations, you, your friends, and family are likely to find multiple occasions to enjoy a great cigar.
Whether that’s at a party, a family gathering, or a moment of solitude on your back porch, M.A.’s Smoke House has something for every cigar lover this time of year.
If you’re looking for a gift for a friend, a family member, or even a treat for yourself to ring in the New Year, consider these two new cigars on our shelves: The El Año 1896 Oscuro and the Sindicato Maduro.
In some ways, these two cigars couldn’t be more different. One is a blend of leaves from Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua, while the other is a puro featuring only leaves from Nicaragua.
But what they share in common is a rich and flavor-filled smoke that will leave you wanting more.
El Año 1896 Oscuro
When Chicago’s Congress Cigar Factory closed its doors in 1926 after 30 years of business, cigar aficionados sadly bid goodbye to one of their favorite brands.
But a new generation of fans has emerged after the grandson of company founder Samuel Paley resurrected the brand in 2010.
Bill Paley raised the company from the proverbial ashes and brought its name into the 21st century. Called the “La Palina Cigar Company” today, Paley is creating a range of personal signature luxury cigars reminiscent of that early 20th century era.
One of the stars of Paley’s new line is the El Año 1896 Oscuro, honoring the year Samuel Paley founded the original company.
The El Año 1896 is wrapped in a Costa Rican wrapper, a Dominican binder, and a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler. This mélange offers a balanced cigar with a complex flavor profile of notes including cocoa, wood, espresso, walnuts, leather, and earth.
The Sindicato Maduro
While the El Año 1896 Oscuro is a blended cigar from multiple countries, the Sindicato Maduro is a puro, featuring a wrapper, binder, and filler all from Nicaragua.
Sindicato partnered with Casa Fernandez to make this cigar, which features a blend of tobaccos from the Casa Fernandez farms. Blended by Arsenio Ramos, it features a shade grown Corojo Jalapa wrapper, an Esteli double leaf binder, and a combined filler of Jalapa and Esteli.
This puro blend offers a smoke that’s medium in body and flavor, as well as a fragrant smoke with notes of cedar sweet spice, nuts, and coffee.
